How to keep your christmas decorations looking like new

Caring for your Christmas decorations may seem like an overwhelming chore after the busy holiday season but we believe it’s worth every effort to ensure your treasured items stay beautiful year after year. We believe in sustainable production, which means quality over quantity and we can be sure you’ll never fall out of love with our Brit Heart product. Below we have thrown together a quick comprehensive guide on how to carefully pack away your decorations to ensure they are fit for future seasons - A little maintenance goes a long way!

Practical guidance for caring for your decorations

01 Cleaning

Dusting off your decorations with a dusting cloth will remove any lint or loose fibres before it comes to carefully wrapping them up.

02 Use acid free tissue paper

Predominantly used for delicate items, acid free tissue paper is pH neutral ensuring that the dyes in the fabrics do not react with the paper and cause discolouration. Acid free tissue paper is more resistant to yellowing and fading and is also better for the environment.

03 Handle with care:

We know little people love to get involved in anything festive and decorating the house for Christmas is often a family tradition across many households. We’d highly recommend involving your children in the packing away process too. Teaching children from a young age how to take care of their most loved festive items is as important as the enjoyment of unwrapping them.

04 Label and organise

There’s nothing worse than reaching for a dusty box from the loft after 11 months and not knowing what you may reveal inside, let alone untangling the Christmas lights or gathering up a thousand pieces of a smashed ball-ball! Labelling boxes is so easy to do and will save so much time and stress when it comes to getting the decs down.

05 Proper storage

All of our decorations at Brit Heart arrive in a beautiful box or our lovely tissue paper all made to last from recyclable materials. We highly recommend keeping all of our packaging in a safe place until the New Year which has been carefully curated to store your decorations in season upon season. If your loft/home storage may be prone to damp we also advise purchasing some larger clear plastic boxes to store all your Christmas decorations in.
